Free Money For Your Marketing: The COVID-19 Google Credit

If you’ve invested money into Pay-Per-Click (PPC) within the past year, this information is for you.

It is no secret that the year of 2020 has thrown us a few curveballs. We are currently dealing with some unorthodox times as the recent COVID-19 pandemic challenges many business owners with something they have never seen before. As a Google Premier Partner and the best digital marketing agency for the home services industry, it is our responsibility to educate businesses about anything and everything related to your internet marketing strategies.

With that being said, it would a shame for us not to educate you about the extremely kind and generous opportunity that has been placed on the table for digital marketing investors during these difficult times. While many have and continue to struggle determining whether or not to ramp up or scale back on their marketing budgets, search engine giant, Google, wants to help where they can. Pay-Per-Click has always been the highest generating revenue contributor for the Google organization out of the long list of services they provide, and the moment so many businesses started being affected by the Coronavirus, it became quickly obvious on how they could play their part to help prevent the businesses most at risk from this global pandemic. Google understands that small and medium sized businesses represent the core of our communities and more importantly that such businesses are the most threatened during challenging times like the Coronavirus has presented us with.

What is the credit being offered?

$340 million in customer ad credits worldwide. The goal is to support small and medium sized businesses, health organizations and governments, and health workers on the frontline of the pandemic. This credit is a smaller part of a major $800+ million contribution plan that Google has arranged that you can read more about here.

Are you eligible for the credit?

While Google is without a doubt targeting small and medium sized businesses, the eligibility of the credit is based around the amount that was spent and when. This is regardless of whether or not you use a third-party marketing agency or you manage your own PPC Ads account directly yourself. The requirement is that you have spent with a Google Ads account in ten out of twelve months in 2019 in addition to January and/or February of this year. Only one credit will be received per Ads customer, not the amount of campaigns they are running.

How do you apply for the credit?

Easy answer, you don’t! The credits will automatically apply to your account once they hit. Upon logging into your Google Ads account, you will see a banner across the top of the account referencing it. There will also be emails sent out notifying that they have been received.

How do you apply for the credit?

How much is the credit amount going to be?

The credit will vary based around historical ad spend, your business address, and the currency of your Google account settings. While the maximum amount caps at $1000, we found that the majority of our RYNO clients received credits of either $300 or $750. The smallest credit we saw ran at $100.

How to use the credit and how long is it valid?

It cannot be applied to an existing balance and must be applied towards future Ad spend. The credit can be applied towards any service operated through the Google Ads platform. This includes services like Search, YouTube, Display, and all campaign types. The credits will be valid until the end of the year, December 31, 2020. Any portion of the credit that goes unused will automatically fall of the account after this date.
