- Maintaining a strong family and team culture
From Poker Chips to the Boardroom
Michael begins his journey at Polk State’s business program, soon transitioning into sales, but not before a career as a professional poker player. That experience taught him the analytical skills and risk tolerance he would later need to know for his future business endeavors.
In 2014, after gaining experience in HVAC and plumbing sales and management, Michael founded Iceberg Home Services. With just a few employees, he began building a company that would soon experience remarkable growth.
A $5.5 Million-Dollar Growth Trajectory
By 2019, Iceberg Home Services had grown to $5.5 million in revenue with around 20 employees. Today, the company has about 100 employees and has taken on multiple trades, including HVAC, plumbing, and septic services.
Michael attributes much of this growth to strategic hiring and empowering the right people. He emphasized the importance of business owners shifting into a constant “recruitment mode,” identifying key roles, and trusting others to lead.
Rocket Fuel: Visionary and Integrator Roles
A turning point in Michael’s leadership approach came after reading Rocket Fuel by Gino Wickman. The book explains how the roles of the visionary and integrator complement each other in successful businesses.
Investing in People and Culture
“If you work on your people, they will work on your business.”
Michael stresses the importance of cultivating a company culture that aligns with the business’s vision. Beyond recruiting, he’s committed to the personal development of his team, ensuring they adopt an ownership mindset. His philosophy? “If you work on your people, they will work on your business.”
Betting on the Future of Iceberg Home Services
Michael Brewner’s journey underscores the importance of vision, strategic leadership, and empowering people. Iceberg Home Services reached $47M in revenue last year and is on track to make $65M this year.
