On today’s episode of To The Point, we welcome Keegan Hodges, co-founder of Best Home Services and chairman of Garage Door Partners.
From working in the family’s electrical business at a young age to building and scaling some incredibly successful home services businesses, Keenan is here to share his journey and what he’s learned along the way.
Calculated Risks Lead to Success
Keegan started off working for his family’s electrical business when he was 13. He’d work summer breaks, and while he wasn’t allowed on every job site, he enjoyed every minute of the trade. He and his brother would join the company officially in 2008, and Keegan went to school to become a licensed air conditioning contractor to add HVAC to the company. In 2010, they bought the business, added plumbing in 2012, and scaled from 20 employees to 300 by 2019 when they partnered with private equity.

Done Is Better Than Perfect
When Keegan and his brother bought the business in 2010, they didn’t have nearly the resources that owners have now. They did have Nexstar, but there weren’t all the groups, events, podcasts, and books that exist today. So while it’s easier now to just Google things and watch a few videos to learn how to do things, it’s never been more important to actually implement what you learn.
Keegan’s advice to contractors today is to stop putting things off and actually implement them. As he says, “Done is better than perfect!”. Until next time … NO. ZERO. DAYS.
